Imaginary Reunion Concerts

The AV Club asks itself which band (assuming all members are still alive) would you like to see reunited for a concert.

My top pick, which was also chosen by a couple of the AV Club people, has to be the Talking Heads. I missed them when they were together because I was too young. It's been a while, but I bet they can still bring it.

A few years ago, I might have said The Police, but then they did reunite and I made no effort at all to go see them. I'd still love to see The Pixies since I couldn't get around to seeing them when they reunited a couple of years back. I'd like to see the full Fleetwood Mac lineup too; they've been touring without Christine McVie for a few years now, which means they don't play like 1/3 of their best songs.

Other than that... all the bands I like who aren't together I've either already seen or the dead member exception rules them out (Beatles - obvs, Zeppelin, Pretenders, Miles Davis circa 58/59, original Floyd lineup, etc.).

Mmph. I was reading your post and mulling over different answers — Holly and the Crickets would sure be nice to see; the Beatles of course; Fletcher Henderson’s Orchestra; and then my eye passes over your final line. Oh yeah, the original Floyd lineup. That’s who.

(Did you hear Robyn Hitchcock’s recreation of their 1967 “Games for May” concert? Well worth downloading.)

nope. i’ve heard him do a few other Floyd songs, tho.

    Well worth downloading

    oh, i will!

i’m gonna go see him + Venus 3 on 4/9, again. gonna be awesome, i assume.

  3. Rob Caldecott

Talking Hesds for me too. My brother, who is 45, saw them loads back when they toured the UK in the late 70s/early 80s. Bastard.

(Either of the Soft Boys or Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians would be very exciting as well.

i really like Robyn all by himself, best. but yeah, the Egyptians would be a fun show. better than the V3, probably.

I’d go with Kyle Ryan over at AV Club and vote for Husker Du. Pixies are also a great call.

Mission of Burma, who actually do still dust it off and play live now and then. They’re brutal live, in a good way.

Another local legend I’d love to see again are the Neighborhoods. Those guys hit it out of the park every time I saw them live.

I’d love to have seen Fela’s Africa ’70 band or James Brown’s band pre-1970 band. Two of the toughest, tightest music-making machines ever.

Miles 80’s band with Marcus Miller and Al Foster — the “We Want Miles” band. Other than the Tony-Ron-Wayne-Herbie quintet, I think that was his best band ever.

Peter Gabriel era Genesis, complete with the flower suit.

OT – well, that BSG episode was a little disappointing after last week’s, though I suppose they reallky couldn’t have ended it any other way. Next week’s looks good.
