“We don’t say a dish is spicy — we say it has pepper.” The recipe writer Yewande Komolafe, who grew up in Lagos and found herself searching for the heat and flavor of Nigerian food in New York, chooses the dishes that define the cuisine for her.
This piece was on the front page of the NYT web site most of the day yesterday.
So cool. And the recipes sound amazing.
I read that piece in the Times, cleek, and found it very interesting and appetising. I’ve never had Nigerian food, only some Ghanaian, but I think there are overlaps – I found it extremely tasty and umami-ish. I see that Nigella Lawson has also tweeted the piece, saying how hungry it made her; that can only improve your sister-in-law’s profile!
i don’t think i’ve ever had any Nigerian food either. but i am going to try some of those recipes.
This is awesome!!!!
They ran it as almost three full pages today in the print edition. The last 48 hours have been crazy. I’ll keep you updated on other things she’s working on.
damn, if i knew where to find a print copy around here i would’ve grabbed one!
