Old

Browsin for new music. Have to keep reminding myself that just because I missed it at the time, stuff that came out in 2005 isn't new, it's old.

Since the beginning of the rock n roll era what 10 year period between the 5’s yielded the greatest change in style? And the least?

My vote for most would be 65 to 75.

And least would be 05 to 15. Just nothing much doing these past 10 years.

yeah, you’re probably right on both.

i wonder if the recent fragmentation of popular music has anything to do with that. ‘dance’ music is busy blending styles from all over the world. hip hop too. R & B is getting creative. but rock isn’t learning much from anywhere. it’s just … stagnant, if not declining.

Yes, I think it’s the fragmentation of the market. Everyone can follow their own peculiar tastes without some big media conglomerate intermediating. So no flocking behavior from the music public at large.

I have a theory that everything you could do with rock and roll has already been done at least twice. And done well!

It’s new if you haven’t heard it before! Also, I am an old but heartily endorse Parquet Courts and the Coathangers.
