I'm Horny, I'm Stoned

Did you know that after Jim Morrison died, the remaining members of The Doors continued on without him? They released not one but two full albums of material. Ray and Robby handled vocals.

I didn't know this until this week. The albums are out of print in the US so I never knew they existed, when I was in high school and still really into the band. I knew they did that "An American Prayer" thing where they dropped some old audio of Morrison reciting his poetry onto new music, but I didn't know they actually had their own songs.

So, let's listen to The Doors!

You're welcome.

No, it's not very good. But it was clear, to me anyway, that they'd been running on fumes since their third album. Their good songs were still pretty good, and every album had one or two. But the non-hit songs started to stink pretty bad. So the lack of awesome songs isn't much of a surprise. What is kindof surprising to me about this Jim-less stuff is how unpolished and raw the songs sound. The Doors' last studio album, LA Woman, was very polished. But this stuff sounds like demos. Maybe they didn't spend much time on it.

You definitely won't read about it in your precious Creem Magazine.
