How’s Tricksy getting on with the new arrival? We did something similar a while back, introducing a kitten to a house where a well established cat already ruled the roost and it went surprisingly well. :) The existing cat was a little miffed for a while but she soon got used to the new arrival.

the kitten’s in a room of her own, right now. but Trix lurks outside the door, and hisses when she can see the kitten. she growled at Pepper (?) once, too. not going well, so far. but it’s only been a couple of days. we’re taking it slow.

how did you do go about it?

We just put them in the same room together. Betty (the existing cat) hissed at the kitten (Boo) and then walked away, tail in the air and a look of obvious disgust on her face – but she wasn’t actually aggressive – just pissed off that we’d dared introduce a new cat into her precious space.

Of course, Boo, being 6 weeks old, thought the presence of another cat was brilliant and would leap on Betty at every opportunity. OK, so he might of got a few swipes to the head, but they have never fought.

At the time we were told it can be open warfare if the cats aren’t related, but speaking to other people I know who’ve introduced a kitten, I think this is bollocks. If the new arrival was fully grown, then yeh, the fur would be flying. Tricksey will soon let Gizmo know who’s boss. Tricksey will also probably be a little jealous, so make sure she gets even more attention than normal. Be careful with the feeding – make sure, if they eat together, that Tricksey doesn’t scoff all the food. I assume you’ll be using a litter tray too, so keep an eye on this as Tricksey may balk at using the same toilet as Giz, so you might be emptying the tray more often.

i like Pepper, too (wife’s idea). plus, she’s the color of black pepper.

Tricksey’s a little jealous. but yeah, we’re trying to spoil her to make up for it. she got about 20 little cat treats yesterday. then she ate all Pepper’s food while Mrs C had her in another room.

    Pepper isn’t really a cat’s name though.
I’d suggest Smokey, but I think that name has been done to death.
Is it too saccharin to suggest “Treaty”?

Lacking an idea, I’ll go with +1 for Gizmo

Treaty and Tricksey (our other cat) would be tough to keep straight.

but, i think we’ve settled on Pepper
