I must’ve messed up some accounting. Coulda sworn I got the Sonic Youth and Dylan tracks. And something tell me I posted the SRV track twice.

you did get the SY track. i don’t see your Dylan answer, tho.

      SRV twice, yes.

i’ll update the results, and expose the comments on that post.

Your sheet has one of my answers offset (I got the Smiths, didn’t get the Replacements) but it doesn’t affect the total.

Since some of my stuff was hidden, I couldn’t remember which one got posted and which one I just forgot to post. Result: I remembered wrong. Oh well. It was still fun. Good practice for the google fu.

ah yeah. the semi-private comments work on your IP addr, which will change if you change computers. it’s either that or make people register… which i won’t do.

Had to listen to all or most of: Dylan, Beasties, Pavement, SRV, Hendrix, and the Clash just to play. I had listened to the Smiths record all the way thru before, but that was 25 years ago.

I’m kind of glad I didn’t win, since I had to rely on magic for two of them. It is pretty amazing that Google Image was able to isolate even two full album covers (Pavement and The Smiths) based on only a clip of them. I only tried five, though; it’s likely that some of the others (like the John Densmore pic and the freaky Hendrix cobra) are distinctive enough that the Mountain View wizardry could pick them out as well.

Fantastic fun as always, cleek. Also, nice head fake using the “Welcome Rolling Stones” bit from a not-Stones album.

i was a little worried about Google image search, so i tried to make them as small as possible, but even small they still needed to have some kind of distinctive detail, so…

should’ve done more covers than songs, to help confound things a bit. i wanted to do that, but got lazy when it came time to actually do it.

I was able to get the Dead cover with the google fu as well. And the correct King Crimson album was the only one that looked even remotely like the sample provided.

I’m kicking myself over the Police and the ‘Mats. Speaking of the ‘Mats, their song Buck Hill off Hootenanny is about a ski area right next to the freeway – so close that there are signs on the freeway warning of fog from the snow machines.

I’m embarrassed that I didn’t get the Dead tune, especially since it was “Casey Jones”, probably the closest thing they ever had to an actual hit. My first thought was that it was “Remember” by Jimi Hendrix, but after I saw the cover from “Axis”, I assumed it was something from that record. “Castles Made of Sand” was pretty much a wild guess. I hang my head in shame.

So it turns out that if I’d scrolled down only two posts, I’d have been reminded of the existence of King Crimson, but in any event, thank you for putting this together. Loads of fun. Also, the Feelies show at Bell House was fantastic. Two long sets + three multi-song encores. (Also the youngest I’ve felt at a show relative to the rest of the crowd in ages.) Thanks again for the tip.
