Q: What's the difference between a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer half-height PCI sound card (pictured) and a "low profile" Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer PCI sound card?
A: 10 minutes cutting down that metal bracket with a Dremel and a fiber-reinforced cutting disk.
Lots of stinging sparks and flying metal fragments. But now I will be able to start working on another Name That Tune! (Damn you Dell, for your cheap on-board sound systems that don't support recording what the speakers are playing! And damn you, sound card industry, for not making more low profile PCI sound cards!)
McGuyver!
Speaking of music quizzes, I’m still working on one. Had a laptop go down so lost some of what I had worked on for it but getting that sorted now.
Interesting way of doing that, though. I use audacity to cut down mp3’s or wav’s.
i typically play the song in iTunes, capture a bit in Audacity while iTunes is playing, then trim it down.
That’s actually a pretty good idea. Time to get back to work on my quiz! Working on a bit of an 80’s theme.
I just load them in audacity. Kept finding mp3 tag fields I had neglected to clear though. Think I finally took 10 minutes and set them all programatically.
Capturing from the sound card would certainly solve that.
so many of my songs are from iTunes, and i can’t open them directly in Audacity.
